Bracken Ridge State School believes that every child can achieve to their full potential with the right amount of support.

We adopt a shared sense of commitment to ensure that every child experiences success, while recognising that all children learn differently.

This is demonstrated through our actions:

  • Quarterly meetings in which the leadership team and class teachers work collaboratively to identify a personalised reading goal for every student. Future strategies and programs are identified to  promote further learning.
  • We adopt a shared responsibility to ensure that each child is achieving to their full potential through a high level of teacher training, effective and evidence based programs and appropriate resourcing.
  • lass teachers are supported by teacher aides several  times a week to facilitate small group, targeted learning. The Support Teacher of Literacy and Numeracy Teacher (ST:LaN) also organises, develops and teaches intervention programs in this block, generally three times a week. Student growth is carefully monitored throughout these programs to ensure success.
  • Intervention programs recognise that all students have different needs. Our programs range from small group to individualised learning.
  • Our Prep classes have full-time aide support all year to help children begin their school lives.
  • If a child is not meeting academic or behavioural expectations, we work with parents/caregivers to determine further action. The Support Teacher of Literacy and Numeracy teacher (ST:LaN) liaises with the class teacher before a child is referred to the Students With Additional Needs Committee. This committee comprises the Principal, Deputy Principal, Guidance Officer and ST:LaN who work with the class teacher to best support the student.  This may involve further screening with the Guidance Officer, Speech- Language pathologist, ST:LaN or external agencies. The class teacher and parents/caregivers are contacted and are informed of this process.

Our School specialists and support staff include:

  • Guidance Officer:  works with students, families and school staff to promote wellbeing. Cognitive testing and counselling are important services offered.
  • Speech-Language Pathologist:  assesses students’ speech and language development. Programs may be implemented at home and school to support learning.
  • Support Teacher of Literacy and Numeracy (STLaN): co-ordinates school intervention programs and heads the Students With Additional Needs Committee.
  • English As A Second Language Teacher: supports children from non-English speaking backgrounds
  • Engagement of psychologist services through Youth Excel
  • School chaplain: provides a counselling service to children and families. Social skill programs are facilitated.

We encourage families to work with us to develop support networks for our students.
